Taking action for older people

IndependentAge helps older people over 65-years-old to stay in their own homes and retain their independence. We aim to remove the barriers that put older people's independence at risk and our support helps them to get on with the lives they want to lead.

We support over 6,500 older people throughout the UK and Ireland on low incomes who have given their time to others or their communities.

Uniquely, IndependentAge provides those it supports with a regular small income for life, as well as the friendship of over 1,200 volunteer befrienders. In times of need, the charity can offer beneficiaries' grants for essentials such as urgent house repairs, independent living equipment, clothing and bed linen and support during a bereavement or crisis.

There is currently a divide between what older people need to guarantee their independence and dignity, and the help and support they actually get. IndependentAge Action Week is raising awareness of the needs of older people, and highlighting what the charity is doing to bridge the gap.
